Synergy, Coolest program ever?
So I recently got a Dell Inspiron 6000, the first laptop with Intel’s Sonoma Technology. Now that I have this laptop I wanted to be able to use my normal mouse and keyboard with it. This normally means that I have to get a KVM switch and have wires going every which way. So as I was browsing Hackaday I found something that might work.
That is where Synergy comes in. Synergy is a software KVM switch. It allows you to move your mouse from one computer screen to the other by simply moving the pointer off of screen A and onto screen B. All you do is setup some software on each computer, then it uses your WIFI/LAN to network the mouse onto the correct screen. It also will transport things on your clipboard from one computer to the other.
Now I can have my two monitors and my laptop in control with just my one keyboard and mouse without any extra cables or anything like that. In fact I can use my laptop completely wirelessly with my keyboard and mouse because of the fact that the software works on the network, so my WIFI does the trick without any cables going to or from my laptop.
